las ramblas

i <3 las ramblas.

who doesn’t?

1st of all.  Las Ramblas is a maximum 5 minute walk from my school, which means that whenever I have time between classes  I will be able to venture over there for some action. Action meaning what?  Funny tourists, true Spaniards, beautiful flowers, funny comedians, dramatic street performers(a la 3rd street promenade), etc.  La boquería is right off Las Ramblas and is honestly one of the most amazing places I’ve ever been.  It is a market full of life, smells and color! AAAAAAAY! Want some Spanish olives? you got them.. and about 10 different vendors selling them.  From olives, to shell fish, to chocolates () to gummy candies shaped like eggs() la boquería is a world of it’s own.

At the end of Las Ramblas is the ocean.. the Mediterranean!

The Plaza de Colon is magnificent and majestic.  A friend and I walked down Las Ramblas one afternoon and hit the ocean at sun down.  It was a foggy day and the lights reflected beautifully against the dewy cobblestone streets.  The port is modern and refined, a perfect contrast with the monumento de Colón which dates back to 1881.

At the end of the rambla del mar, which is basically a wooden plank that walks over the water , is a mall(forget the name right now) which was recently built and is modern as well.  It is well done, for a mall, and overlooks the ocean and the W Hotel.  There are various “modern” sites throughout the city that are results of the 1992 Olympics,
